Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

The RCIA is an opportunity to journey into our Catholic faith, as well as prepare to receive the Sacraments of Initiation. This journey is marked by four distinct periods:

  1. Inquiry
  2. Catechumenate
  3. Elect
  4. Mystagogia

The Rite of Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process for bringing into the Catholic Church both those who have never been baptized (Catechumens) and those who were baptized in a non-Catholic Church (Candidates for Full Communion). RCIA is also the best way for adult Catholics who have never been confirmed to prepare for that final Sacrament of Initiation.

Each year in September, Holy Family begins a new RCIA class and we invite everyone to participate who would like to understand the teachings and customs of the Catholic Church or to join the Catholic Church. The RCIA journey begins on Tuesdays in September from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Fr. Mike's Hall and will continue until May.

Interested individuals can contact the rectory at 301-249-2266. If you need child care, please indicate that as well.

Adult Faith Formation

"You are the salt of the earth" Matthew 5:13

To provide opportunities for the ongoing spiritual formation of adult Christians invited to live more fully their baptismal call through:

  • an understanding of the spiritual life and means to live it;
  • a knowledge of the basic doctrines of the Faith in which one's spirituality is rooted;
  • an understanding and appreciation of scripture which nourishes adult faith;
  • an awareness of the responsibility of discipleship for every individual, both in the Church and in society; and
  • a deepening attentiveness to the presence and action of God through discernment in all of life.

"Evangelization is no more than a proclamation of what has been experienced and an invitation to enter into the mystery of communion with Christ"

Pope Benedict XVI, General Audience, Rome, March 22, 2006

Faith Formation ativities are ongoing and listed on the Parish Activities page.

Children's Faith Formation

The Religious Education and Formation of all people is the paramount mission of Holy Family Parish. As catechists of Holy Family our mission is to promote the faith, teach the word of God, in our parish and community . We will strive to help all to explore their Catholic faith, develop morally correct attitudes towards God, self and others as they grow in religious understanding and practice. Specifically, by our own example and commitment to our own formation, we will assist parents in their roles as primary educators of their children. Our classes meet on Sundays from 10:40 to 11:50 am. Classes are available for children in preschool through 8th grade.
